The resort of Zlatni Pyasatsi (Golden Sands), is one of the largest north Black Sea resorts. Its total area is more than 1,800 hectares of land. It is situated 18km north of Varna- the third largest town in Bulgaria, the pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with a great number of places of interest. Golden Sands borders Kranevo to the north and St. St. Konstantin and Elena resort to the south.
     Modern history of Golden Sands resort started 1957. For not more than two decades it became luxurious complex of international importance. Nowadays it has more than 100 hotels, numerous restaurants, bungalows, camping sites, etc. It is the winner of a "Blue Flag" - a prestigious international award for environmentally clean resorts.
     The name of the resort originates from the golden sand beaches that surround it. Golden Sands is world famous with its finest sands in Europe. The beach stretch over some 4km with width of up to 100 metres. The sea bottom is comparatively steep-sloped without no rocks or sudden drops. The clean and calm waters of the sea with low salinity lower than that of the Mediterranean sea are perfect premises for tourist development and recreation.
     The Bulgarian Black Sea coast enjoys a mild and pleasant climate. The temperate continental, similar to that in the famous Mediterranean resorts. Average daytime temperature during the summer months is: air - 27 °C, sea water -24°C. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September and more than 300 hours in July and August. The heat is not overpowering thanks to the sea breeze. Changes of temperature are not drastic. The mild weather in early spring and late autumn is ideally suited for water- and sea treatments.
     Golden Sands is part of the homonymous natural park. The complex is abundant in lush vegetation and with the numerous bushes and trees it resembles a real park. The natural park is fifth category protected area. It was created in 1943 and covers an area of 1 320 hectares. The park is natural habitat of many animal and plant species. Plants are 500 in number, 21 of them are threatened with extinction and are of greatest significance. Fauna is represented by: 2 species of amphibian, 8 species of reptiles, 78 species of birds and 25 species of mammals. The forests of the park go along the sea coast surround the Golden Sands resort and in the sought touch the forests of the town of Varna. The relief is hilly, terraced and sliding. Vertical rocks mark the boundary between the sliding areas and the Frengen plateau, a limestone structure, liable to landslide and erosion. From them to the sea there are steep ridges. Some of them are Aladzha monastery, Golden Sands, Bialata stena (White wall). On the territory of the park there are 5 tourist roads with different difficulty and duration. They pass to old fountains places for rest and places that disclose fantastic panorama of the sea. Natural Park is also rich source of mineral waters. There are four particularly valuable mineral springs.
     Pleasant climate, marvelous nature and mineral springs turn Golden Sands into one of the jewels of the Bulgarian coast.
     The resort of Golden Sands disposes of 100 hotels and villas. The predominant hotel category is that of three-star standard. Most of the hotels have swimming pools and fitness halls, balneo-centers and exchange bureau. There is a profusion of restaurants offering different kinds of specialties of the national and international cuisine.      One of the most attractions of Golden Sands is "Aquapolis" - the most beautiful water park in Eastern Europe, is the first one in Bulgaria, established in a unique Mauritian Mediterranean style.      Some interesting places to visit near Golden Sands are Aladzha rock monastery. It hosted Hesychasts in 12th century and has an interesting history. Nowadays only a small part of the frescoes are preserved but the experience of being in a monastery nestled on a high steep rock is unforgettable. The monastery is declared a cultural sight and houses a small museum. Relatively close to Golden Sands (about 30 km.) is also the town of Balchik with its beautiful palace and botanic garden.
