WEATHER IN BULGARIA

Country name: conventional long form: Republic of Bulgaria
  conventional short form: Bulgaria

The National flag of the Republic of Bulgaria is a rectangle with three colours: white, green, and red, positioned horizontally top to bottom. This form of the flag was adopted on April 16, 1879 with the first Bulgarian Constitution.

The Coat of Arms of the Republic of Bulgaria is a state symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the Bulgarian people and state. The Coat of Arms is a crowned rampant golden lion on a dark red background with the shape of a shield. Above the shield there is a crown modeled after the crowns of the kings of the Second Bulgarian kingdom, with five crosses and an additional cross on top. Two crowned rampant golden lions hold the shield from both sides, facing it. They stand upon two crossed oak branches with acorns. Under the shield, there is a white band lined with the three national colors. The band is placed across the ends of the branches and the phrase "Unity Makes Strength" is inscribed on it.

Bulgarian is the most widely spoken language in Bulgaria. It is also spoken in Canada, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States, with an estimated total of 9 million native speakers.
Bulgarian is the oldest written Slavic language. Historically it is divided into Old Bulgarian (9th to 11th century), Middle Bulgarian (12th to 15th century) and Modern Bulgarian (16th century onwards); the present-day written language was standardized in the 19th century. Some words and structures remain from the language of the Bulgars, the Central Asian people who moved into present-day Bulgaria and eventually adopted the local Slavic language. The Bulgar was otherwise unrelated to Bulgarian.
Bulgarian demonstrates several linguistic innovations that set it apart from other Slavic languages, such as the elimination of noun declension, the development of a suffix definite article (possibly inherited from the Bulgar language, or taken from Albanian), the lack of verb infinitive, and the retention and further development of the Proto-Slavic verb system. There are various verb forms to express non-witnessed, retold, and doubtful action.

Media: Bulgaria was one of the last east European countries to pass a broadcasting law in 1996, after some six years of preparation. The delay had an adverse effect on the expansion of commercial broadcasting and the development of public broadcasting. National radio and TV were given the status of public services and granted independence. In May 2000 Balkan News Corporation - part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation - launched bTV, Bulgaria's first national commercial channel. Several privately-owned regional television stations are on the air. In 2003 Nova TV won the bid for a second national commercial TV licence.
