Pirin mountain and the Black Sea Coast out of NATURA 2000
Sofia echo, 2007-02-15
The inclusion of some problematic terrains in the European environmental network Natura 2000 has been postponed. Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said that analysis will be carried out over several months and the status of these territories will be re-considered.The national bio-diversity council will be responsible for the decision, Focus news agency reported.
Most of the problematic terrains are located along the Black Sea coast and in the Blagoevgrad region.
Stanishev said that while the status of the areas is re-examined major construction projects will not be launched there. The aim of the delay is to combine the interests of investors and the state, Stanishev said.
An information campaign on Natura 2000 inclusion will feature among the Cabinet's priorities, Stanishev said. Apart from nature preservation, the Cabinet will try to guarantee that major infrastructure projects will not face any hindrances.
