Berkovitsa is nice small town at the foot of gorgeous Stara Planina (Old Mountain). It is 89 km. away from the capital Sofia and its international airport. The town offers good railway and road connections with Sofia and north Bulgaria.
     In and around the town there are many interesting monuments from the near and far past. There are remains of fortification and church from 4 century AD - signs of Roman civilization. Monuments from different periods of the Bulgarian revival deserve seeing - the clock tower (1762 year), the house museum of Ivan Vazov, the churches "The holy virgin" and "St. Nikola".
     The future of Berkovitsa is seen as ski center. At the moment there is an attractive slope at the Kom summit - the highest for this part of Stara Planina. The projects envisage construction of accommodation base, several new pistes and ski facilities. In this way Berkovitsa will become attractive to holidaymakers and skiers.
