In years of Turkish yoke town was one of the centers of Bulgarian economic and cultural life. Vasil Levski - most prominent Bulgarian revolutionary use the town as main base in Bulgaria.
     Today Lovech is important economic and industrial center. The present population of the town is about 50 000 people. It is very attractive to people interested in history and archeology. Local museum hosts finds from very interesting archeological objects - Perperikon and Tatul.
